Finally taking the plunge!
Well, we’ve done it! We’ve been talking about it for years…..homeschooling, traveling, living an “out of the box” life…and so far, we are loving it! Since my dear sister passed at only 47 years old, my perspective on life completely changed. I was just 11 months younger than her and realized then how fragile, unpredictable and precious life is. It was really hard getting through that first and second year without her but from the moment she was gone from my life, I vowed that I would honor her life by living mine with more intent, more happy moments, with more enthusiasm and gusto, with less stress, less negativity, less worries….living as a child lives… living the present, living the moment and REALLY living it …instead of just dreaming it.
So….I got to work on it. I started taking steps to simplify my life (this did not happen overnight). It took a lot of work, effort, and changes in my life to get to where I am. It also took a bit of aging. As we get older, we realize how short life is. How unimportant things really are that we at one time thought were so important. How life just slips by, slowly, and before you know it, there might not be much life left in you. Yep, you realize that and so….what to do????………………Live, really LIVE and enjoy what’s left of your journey!!!….
I finished my ongoing projects at home, withdrew Bella from school and started our journey of living life more fully, schooling on the road, and learning through living. Our first adventure travel landed us in Costa Rica.
Bella will start her own blog soon as part of Language Arts. So far, she’s been writing letters to friends and writes in her journal almost everyday. For now, I’ll write for the two of us just to keep everyone updated on what we are doing.
This is my first blog posting, so bear with me…but so far, here’s where we’ve been and what we’ve done:
The Journey starts today!!!…
…and we are so excited! After a stressful last year of dealing with construction projects and getting my life in order (sort of)….we are off!!!
First trip this year involves spending time with Family so we are off to Hamburg, Germany where Bella’s father, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousin live.
Update (1/24/13): Well, after a gorgeous Summer traveling around Europe and spending time with family, we decided to put Bella back in school so I could get my sh*t together back in Miami while she went to school. So although we travelled lots during our Summer, we took a 4 month break to sort our lives out before taking the plunge into homeschooling and world travel.
Here are highlights from our Summer:
